Two Good Lists of Ideas: Human Rights and Environmental Justice

It would be cool if we got like, really into building a society around these two documents. If you’re not familiar with either, they’re worth a read:

  1. The United Nations’ The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  2. Delegates to the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit’s Principles of Environmental Justice

It should be said, we have been trying to build one around the philosophical principles in the former. But of course, we really haven’t even given the second a chance.

It would be really cool if popular culture got really into documents like these. I wish debates around these were flooded by Twitter rather than whatever daily bs goes on there. It seems like if we’re going to cobble something together moving forward we should at least be on the same page about the basics — and basics matter. If we don’t have clear philosophical guidelines it’s hard to have clear conversations.

Any other solid philosophical statutes float your boat as we invent some other ways to live in a world that is more resource scarce and chaotic?
